In particular, neonates in LMICs have infection rates 3 to 20 times higher than those in high-income countries. More than half of neonatal deaths are associated with infections. In 2020, an estimated 2.4 million neonates died worldwide at an average global rate of 17 deaths per 1,000 live births ( ). However, neonatal mortality rates vary significantly across countries, with a substantial proportion of deaths occurring in LMICs. The Every Newborn Action Plan aims for countries to have ≤12 neonatal deaths per 1,000 livebirths by 2030 or ≤10 by 2035. Neonatal mortality is a major concern for public health, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where optimized use of antimicrobial agents is problematic for many neonates. (2023) Prevalence and clonal diversity of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae causing neonatal infections: A systematic review of 128 articles across 30 countries. The main limitation of this study is the absence or scarcity of data from North America, South America, and Oceania.Ĭitation: Hu Y, Yang Y, Feng Y, Fang Q, Wang C, Zhao F, et al. The vast majority (75.3%) of the 1,592 neonatal CRKP strains available for analyzing carbapenemase have genes encoding metallo-β-lactamases and NDM (New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase) appeared to be the most common carbapenemase (64.3%). In particular, ST17 CRKP has been seen in neonates in 8 countries across 4 continents. We identified 146 sequence types (STs) for neonatal CRKP strains and found that ST17, ST11, and ST15 were the 3 most common lineages. We incorporated the 204 genomes with a literature review for understanding the species distribution, clonal diversity, and carbapenemase types. A total of 535 neonatal CRKP genomes were identified from GenBank including Sequence Read Archive, of which 204 were not linked to any publications. Based on 21 studies reporting patient outcomes, we found that the pooled mortality of neonatal CRKP infections was 22.9% (95% CI, 13.0% to 32.9%). We estimated that the pooled global prevalence of CRKP infections in hospitalized neonates was 0.3% (95% confidence interval, 0.2% to 0.3%). We found that bloodstream infection is the most common infection type in reported data. We included 128 studies, none of which were preprints, comprising 127,583 neonates in 30 countries including 21 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) for analysis. We identified 8,558 articles and excluding those that did not meet inclusion criteria. We used narrative synthesis for pooling data with JMP statistical software. We included studies addressing the prevalence of CRKP infections and colonization in neonates but excluded studies lacking the numbers of neonates, the geographical location, or independent data on Klebsiella or CRKP isolates. We searched multiple databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Ovid MEDLINE, Cochrane, bioRxiv, and medRxiv) to identify studies that have reported data of neonatal CRKP infections up to June 30, 2022. We performed a systematic review of studies reporting population-based neonatal infections caused by CRKP in combination with a genome-based analysis of all publicly available CRKP genomes with neonatal origins. Webisodes: The Face of the Enemy (2008-09) Although this gave more time for post-production, it caused great irritation in the fanbase. They then split the final season in half, airing the two halves a year apart. However, SyFy delayed transmission of the season by several months due to problems caused by the 2007-08 Writer's Guild of America Strike. The fourth season of Battlestar Galactica was announced as being the last. A series of webisodes set during the First Cylon War preceded Razor, but these have been integrated into the episode itself on the home media releases. Produced as a straight-to-DVD special between the third and fourth seasons, Razor was a 90-minute TV movie set towards the end of the second season and expanded on the backstory of the battlestar Pegasus. They are included in the Complete Series Blu-Ray set in all territories, however (under the special features for Disc 2 of Season 3). They can be found on the American Season 3 DVD release, but not on the UK DVD release. However, they do set up the state of play at the start of the third season. As a result, The Resistance was issued only in standard definition (even on the Blu-Ray release) and with a minimum of post-production. However, a legal dispute over pay for the webisodes (which also affected studio-mate series The Office) caused delays in production. The producers agreed and filmed ten short segments which, when combined, form a 24-minute "prelude" to the third season. Season 1 (2004-05)īetween Seasons 2 and 3, NBC requested that the BSG team produce ten short "webisodes" to advertise the return of the show. The mini-series is included in the Complete Series Blu-Ray set. For UK DVD watchers, the mini-series still has to be purchased separately. Later on, it was incorporated into the US Season 1 DVD box set but not in the UK Season 1 DVD box set. This was initially released by itself on DVD. When BSG was rebooted in 2003, it first returned as a pilot mini-series consisting of two 90-minute episodes. This also best protects later spoilers and crucial plot revelations. The show's production order is probably the best viewing order as well, since this is the order the series originally aired in and is what most people viewed the series in. Once you’ve both used it a few times, this device gets easier to work, but this means it’s best used with a regular partner. The 10 vibrations give enough variation, although you do have to find one that you both like. There is no need to wait and take turns with it as such. You need to use plenty of lubrication and you may experience some bruising to the outside of your vagina afterwards.īut what’s great is that a couple can use it together. Plus, not all women will like the feel of the vibrator being inside them constantly. You can use it solo for a blended orgasm (G-spot and clitoral climax at the same time), but this feels like a slight waste when you have spent so much money on it. While the We-Vibe Sync is versatile when it comes to how you control it, as a standalone vibrator it’s slightly limited. The versatility of the We-Vibe Sync vibrator No one would think this was a sex toy it looks more like a trendy gadget you’d find in the kitchen. It’s made from soft purple (aqua is also available) silicone and is about the size of your hand if fully extended, but has adjustable joints in the middle, so it folds over. The We-Vibe Sync doesn’t look like a typical sex toy. (Image credit: We-Vibe) The We-Vibe Sync vibrator design But things are often never quite that simple and in all my tests this Bluetooth function never worked for the duration. It connects to the toy via Bluetooth and you can then use wi-fi to connect your smartphone to your partner’s smartphone. Not in the same room as your partner or want the vibes to be in sync with music? Then you can download the free We-Connect app. It connects immediately and is easy to use, but a bit clunky-sounding as you click through the modes. To start, you press the power button on the stimulator for a few seconds and then hold down one of the buttons on the remote control. All you need to do is select the mode you want (there are 10 different vibes to try) by clicking the power button and then inserting the thinner end of the device into your vagina before having sex.Ībout the size of a flattened egg, the remote control has four buttons on it, to change mode setting and speed with ease, and works up to three metres away. Like many of the various types of vibrator, you can use the We-Vibe sync on its own, without the remote control if you wish. Getting it right can be slightly fumbly and can detract from any romance, but once you know how it works for the both of you, it’s fine. The positioning has to be comfortable for your partner, too. But this can be tricky and some users may not like the feel of both the vibrator and your partner inside you at the same time. There are two adjustable points you can release to make the We-Vibe Sync fit inside you comfortably. Designed for both G-spot and clitoral stimulation, the smaller, thinner end fits inside your vagina, while the larger part remains outside and presses on both your clitoris and your partner when you’re having sex. Unfortunately, this involves taking the time to set it all up.Įssentially, the We-Vibe Sync looks like a bendy crab’s claw. But if you’re spending this much money on a vibrator, then it’s worth getting as much out of it as you can and trying all the options available. How easy the We-Vibe Sync is to use depends on how you use it. Although most corneal abrasions are not serious, they can be very uncomfortable and cause light sensitivity and watery eyes. Antibacterial eye drops may be prescribed to prevent infection while the cornea heals. Most corneal foreign bodies can be removed easily in the practice with the proper instruments. Blurred vision and sensitivity to light also are common.Ī corneal foreign body requires urgent attention from an optometrist or ophthalmologist because material embedded in the cornea can quickly cause a serious eye infection. The discomfort from a corneal foreign body can range from mild to severe, and typically it is most bothersome when you're blinking (since the eyelid is rubbing across it during blinks). Common foreign bodies that can adhere to and become embedded in the surface of the cornea include metal shavings, inorganic grit (sand, tiny stone particles), sawdust and other organic material. Not surprisingly, what often causes a foreign body sensation in the eye is an actual foreign body. Often, eye pain that feels like something is in the eye is actually caused by irritation or inflammation of the front surface of the eye, particularly the cornea.Ĭommon causes of pain emanating from the front surface of the eye or inside the eye include: Corneal foreign body Here are common causes of eye pain, based on the location of the discomfort. These include:įeeling something is "in" your eye (foreign body sensation)Įye pain also is frequently accompanied by blurred vision, redness ( bloodshot eyes) and sensitivity to light. READY TO HAVE YOUR EYES CHECKED? Find an optometrist near you.Ī painful eye can produce various sensations and accompanying symptoms, which can help your optometrist determine the cause of your discomfort and prescribe the correct pain treatment. Several very serious eye conditions - including cataracts, macular degeneration, the most common type of glaucoma, a detached retina, and diabetic eye disease - cause no eye pain whatsoever. In other words, a relatively minor problem, such as a superficial abrasion of the cornea, can be very painful. To complicate matters, the severity of eye pain does not indicate how serious the underlying cause of the discomfort is. In some cases, such as an eye injury, the cause of the pain is obvious but often it's difficult to know why your eye hurts. There's no evidence that right eye pain occurs more frequently than left eye pain, or vice versa. The pain can be unilateral or bilateral - in other words, you can experience right eye pain, left eye pain, or the discomfort can affect both eyes. Incidentally, hair in your eye is nothing to worry about.Eye pain is a catch-all phrase to describe discomfort on, in, behind or around the eye. You need to know the cause of the problem before you can get any treatment. You should see an ophthalmologist within next few days. It could also be associated with frequency or urgency to pass water. You may have had some pins and needles sensation somewhere in your body. I wear glasses of power 0.25.Ī:Pain in your right eye when looking up could be caused either by sinusitis or inflammation in the orbit or optic neuritis which can only be confirmed by MRI, specially as it is associated with blurred vision as well. I am not overweight and have no cholesterol problems. How long should I wait before seeing an eye doctor? Is there any off-the-shelf medicine that I can use before seeing the doctor? I am not diabetic. So, I believe, I got rid of it by washing. I washed it quickly and did not find it later. What are the causes for pain in the eye? Accidently, sometime back, a small hair went inside my eye. He also said that the pain could just be muscular and there is no need to worry. Yesterday, the doctor checked my eyes and said that there was no problem with the optic nerve. I consulted a doctor who said it was a general pain and gave me a pain killer and an anti-inflammatory pill. I also had muscular pain in my legs sometime back. But when I try to close my left eye and see with my right eye, the objects are not very clear. When I close my right eye and try and see with my left eye, then the objects are clear. I also feel that the vision in my right eye is not clear. It pains only when I try to look up without lifting my head. Q: I am having pain in my right eye for the past two days. The interior of this older Captur does feel its age, with an unsophisticated feel and a rather out-dated media system - an update in 2017 did help to address some of those shortfalls, but there is still plenty left to be desired. Higher-specification models come with Android Auto for simple control of your apps through the screen, unfortunately Apple CarPlay is not an option if you're an avid iPhone user. All but the cheapest models come with an easy-to-use touchscreen display which includes sat-nav. Contrasting roof and door mirror colours are standard on higher-specification cars, while various colour interior highlights start at £100.įrom the driving seat, visibility ahead is excellent but thick pillars either side of the back window make it tricky to see behind. It's a useful family workhorse, but one that offers some fun personalisation options if you're buying from new. Of its rivals only the Vauxhall Crossland X, which is fitted with its own sliding seat system, offers more space, although newer rivals such as the Volkswagen T-Roc and Seat Arona come close. It’s more than you’ll find in bigger cars, such as the Volkswagen Golf and Nissan Qashqai, and means that you can fit a weekly shop with space to spare. Pushing them fully forwards might reduce legroom but it leaves an enormous 455 litres of space - 155 litres larger than the Clio’s. In the case of the Captur, it results in a vastly more practical car, with large door pockets, a big storage box on top of the dashboard and a bit of extra legroom in the rear seats.īoot space is even more impressive because you can slide the rear seats forwards and backwards. It's a small crossover, combining the size and fuel economy of a small car with the extra height of an off-road car. This is the previous-generation model, if you're looking for something with styling and up-to-date, the latest Captur will probably be your preference. It also comes standard with a five year/150 00 km warranty and a three year/45 000 km service plan.If you'd like a car with the small dimensions of a Renault Clio, but a loftier view and larger boot then the Renault Captur fits the bill. If you are looking for a car with hatchback dimensions but with an elevated driving position, practicality, oodles of space and specced to the brim, you cannot go wrong with the entry level Captur which comes in at just under R220 000. Pricing of the Captur is where Renault is really ahead of the pack the entry level unit is almost R20 000 cheaper than the segment leader, the Ford EcoSport 1,0 EcoBoost Trend. I would be far happier to have the manual, even if it has less power. With that said, this six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is fine if you are driving at low speeds, it’s just if you stamp on that accelerator. If you pull out in to traffic or try and overtake you better hope you have enough spare time for that turbo to kick in. The lag, with the automatic transmission and turbo equally to blame, could potentially cause an accident. We drove the 88 kW EDC, which is Renault’s automatic transmission. Two engines are available: the 66 kW turbo and the 1,2 88 kW turbo. Which means if the kids spill something on the seats you just whip the covers off and throw them into the washing machine. The handiest optional extra has to be the Zip Collection removable upholstery. With the Expression you can expect an array of standard features such as 16-inch alloys, rear park distance control, Eco mode, card unlocking system with hands-free function, electric windows, heated rear screen, climate control, auto door locking, MediaNav with a 7-inch touchscreen, satellite navigation, Bluetooth, USB and cruise control. Two trim levels are on offer, the entry level Expression and the more equipped Dynamic. The rear seats slide 16cm, which again means you won’t go without space! There is also space beneath the boot level, but that means you only get a space saver as a spare tyre. The boot is larger than most of its rivals with a capacity of 377 litres. The cabin feels roomy and climb into rear and you will have more than enough legroom. So nothing new or special here, but it is comfortable and does feel far more refined than the Duster. Step inside and you pretty much met with the interior of the Clio. I wouldn’t say it is the best looking in the class but it sure is different which means it should hopefully date better than some of the other cars on the roads. Many commented that it looked like a big Opel Adam. It is an eye-catching car and even more so with the duo-tone roof and body option. Some 58% of those users scanned a QR or barcode from their homes, while 39% scanned from retail stores 53% of the 14 million users were men between the ages of 18 and 34. ĭuring the month of June 2011, 14 million American mobile users scanned a QR code or a barcode. The QR code has become one of the most-used types of two-dimensional code. There are a great many QR code generators available as software or as online tools that are either free, or require a paid subscription. QR codes may be used to display text to the user, to open a webpage on the user's device, to add a vCard contact to the user's device, to open a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), to connect to a wireless network, or to compose an email or text message. Adoption QR codes can be displayed on buildings, such as this one being painted in Cape Town.Īs of 2023, QR codes are used in a much broader context, including both commercial tracking applications and convenience-oriented applications aimed at mobile-phone users (termed mobile tagging). Its purpose was to keep track of automotive parts manufactured by Denso, to replace several bar codes on each box, each of which had to be scanned separately, with the requirement of high capacity that is able to encode Kanji, Kana and alphanumerics together. The initial design was influenced by the black and white pieces on a Go board, the position detection pattern was found using the least used ratio in black and white areas on printed matter can avoid misidentifying, which was 1:1:3:1:1. The QR code system was invented in 1994 under a team led by Masahiro Hara from the Japanese company Denso Wave. Applications include product tracking, item identification, time tracking, document management, and general marketing. The QR labelling system was applied beyond the automobile industry due to its fast readability and greater storage capacity compared to standard UPC barcodes. The required data is then extracted from patterns that are present in both horizontal and vertical components of the image. Ī QR code consists of black squares arranged in a square grid on a white background, including some fiducial markers, which can be read by an imaging device such as a camera, and processed using Reed–Solomon error correction until the image can be appropriately interpreted. To efficiently store data, QR codes use four standardized modes of encoding (i) numeric, (ii) alphanumeric, (iii) byte or binary, and (iv) kanji. In practice, QR codes contain data for a locator, an identifier, and a website visitor tracking. A barcode is a machine-readable optical image that contains information specific to the labelled item.
